HERNDON, VA., JUNE 16, 2026 – PointOne, LLC (PointOne Data Centers) today announced its intent to utilize fuel cell technology for behind-the-meter power generation at its proposed Remington Technology Park data center campus in Fauquier County, Virginia—enhancing the project's energy strategy and long-term sustainability profile.
Following extensive technical, operational, and environmental evaluation, as well as ongoing dialogue with local stakeholders and community members, PointOne determined that fuel cells can meet the campus's reliability requirements while delivering meaningful benefits compared to traditional power generation technologies. Fuel cells offer several advantages, including highly efficient energy production and lower noise levels than the originally proposed solution. The fuel cell system is being designed as a dedicated on-site generation resource for the campus, producing power directly at the facility to reduce reliance on grid-delivered electricity and help avoid shifting infrastructure or energy costs to local utility customers.
"From the outset, our goal has been to develop a project that delivers reliability, efficiency, and long-term value for all stakeholders,” said Colin Clish, Co-Founder and President of PointOne. "After thorough evaluation, we determined that fuel cells represent the best power generation solution for Remington Technology Park. This cutting-edge technology enables us to meet the reliability needs of a modern data center campus in a way that is quieter, more efficient, and better aligned with our sustainability objectives. The move to fuel cells reflects both our commitment to sustainable, state-of-the-art development and our desire to be a responsible long-term neighbor in Fauquier County."
PointOne is focused on developing infrastructure solutions that combine operational excellence, sustainability, and long-term value. The fuel cell transition further strengthens a project expected to generate significant economic benefits for Fauquier County, including new tax revenue, infrastructure investment, and broader opportunities for economic growth. As the company advances the project, PointOne remains committed to transparent engagement and ongoing dialogue with local stakeholders—including county officials, residents, and community organizations—to help ensure the project delivers lasting value for both its customers and the Fauquier County community.
